Life and trade-offs
“Life is full of trade offs.”
I have come to understand that phrase more since becoming a husband, a dad, maintaining a home, working full-time, and all the while squeezing in my ambitions.
And the truth is: some trade-offs are hard. Sometimes having to sacrifice something good for something better sucks because the good thing is … well … good!
My 3 year old son Robby asked me to snuggle with him tonight.
He asked me during my free moment each night when I usually sketch a drawing to share with you.
That is the trade off I faced. And I chose to snuggle
In my mind’s eye I see a time where my sons won’t want to snuggle at night. That makes me tear up. It’s so fun to have such little dudes who say such silly things all of the time. They are so full of love and teach me how important a good belly laugh is on a daily basis. And a good snuggle.
I’m not sure who is even going to get this far in the post. I think I’m writing this mostly for myself to remember how precious this time is. How precious being a parent is. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that (like when every button is being pushed by the little dudes or like when poop is smeared all over the bathroom during potty training… lol).
But it is so precious.
As a dear friend of mine reminds me often: “hug your little ones. They grow up too fast.”
Trying to take that to heart,
-Josh
